FOLLOWING UP> Retro, and resealable
Looking to the past for marketing inspiration is
nothing new. From packaged goods to entertainment, nostalgia has seeped into nearly every aspect of consumer culture.
The Coca-Cola Company is rolling out 12oz resealable glass bottles in the brand's iconic contour shape this fall. The new design will build brand value with Coke's current consumers, and the resealable feature meets growing demand for convenient packaging. Sustainability was also a factor in the brand's selection of glass.
With this latest effort, Coke is continuing to pursue internal policies and goals that include increasing recycling and/or recovery of 90 percent of its production output by 2010 and/or recycling the equivalent of all of its packaging.
The glass bottles are decorated with a wrap-around label and sold in a six-pack paperboard carrier that bears the brand's 1904 tagline: "Drink Coca-Cola in bottles".

Cost savings takes on a new hue
Unilever is reducing the number of ink colors on its European food
packaging from more than 100...to just six. The program, an effort to
drive down costs and simplify the supply chain, comes after the brand
owner piloted a successful ink-reduction program across its spreads and
cooking categories. The new six-color palette is said to be capable of
replicating all of the colors in the brand's entire food packaging
range, offering the additional benefit of reduced material waste and,
as a result, of minimized environmental impact. more
