venus olay packagingWinner of a 2013 DuPont Gold award for packaging design innovation, Placon, a leading North American thermoformer, worked closely with Gillette to design and manufacture the Venus & Olay package’s shallow and deep thermoformed insert. A simple premise, to design an easy open clamshell package, has taken tooling design to a whole new level. The package’s unique combination perforation/slit/finger tab opening was produced in a single operation on high-speed thermoforming equipment. The package’s inner carrier tray is a thin-gauge rigid thermoform that utilizes both sides of the insert to retain the razor’s components on multiple planes in multiple-sized cavities.
