Peanuts Packaging Picks Up Awards

Fisher Roasted Party PeanutsClear Lam Packaging Inc. has won a 2014 AmeriStar Award for its Fisher Roasted Party Peanuts PrimaPak package from the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IOPP), the second major award for this new patented technology — the package has also recently won a DuPont Packaging Award. Developed by Clear Lam to replace bulky rigid jars, blow-molded containers, injection-molded packages, composite cans and dysfunctional stand-up pouches, the PrimaPak package is a  flexible, stackable and reclosable packaging produced on a vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machine. 

Because it is stackable, the PrimaPak technology is designed to improve package cube by 30 percent or more, aiding in truckload and warehouse space savings, reducing fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The Fisher Nuts PrimaPak package was produced from a single roll of flexible film incorporating the Prima ExoShell made with recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) and the Peel and ReSeal lid system, eliminating the need for pre-formed bases, lids, labels and shrink bands. By combining all components of the finished package in one roll of film, millions of pounds of packaging waste are eliminated. These benefits reduce the amount of packaging entering landfills.

One of North America’s most important packaging award competitions, the AmeriStar Award recognizes packaging innovation across a range of consumer packaged goods, pharmaceutical and industrial categories. Entries were evaluated by a panel of judges based on innovation, product protection, economics, package performance, marketing and environmental impact. The competition commemorates the best packages of the year and pays tribute to the industry thought leaders advancing their company's goals of packaging innovation, differentiation, savings and growth.

As noted, the package also previously picked up a Silver DuPont Packaging Award for packaging excellence in May.

Entries represent the industry’s most innovative packaging designs, materials, technology, processes and services across the entire packaging value chain.

An international jury judges the DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation. Winners were selected from hundreds of entries provided by packaging designers, converters, consumer goods processors, retailers and equipment manufacturers from all regions of the globe.
