Residents in the London borough of Brent could face a £1,000 ($1,914 USD) fine if they fail to recycle packaging, now that the Brent Council has made recycling compulsory for its residents. “We collect your green box weekly so it is easy to see if you are recycling,” the borough’s website says. If a household doesn’t put out a green recycling bin for a three-week period, then a recycling “advisor” will hand-deliver a letter and discuss why the household isn’t recycling. “Generally, we will not be go[ing] through your grey rubbish bins to get evidence to prove that you have not been recycling,” the site says.
